Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tui Na Centre – Rozman Method© massage?

Tui Na Centre – Rozman Method© (RM) sensory pressure massage is based on Chinese Tui Na massage. It has been developed specifically to be used by parents and therapists of children with special needs – Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.

Can I learn only from the video?

Our instruction videos are organised in an easy-to-follow format, with step-by-step instructions and frequent repetitions. By following the materials thoroughly you will be able to fully absorb and copy the movements and correct positioning of fingers and hands. The videos give detailed explanation of all the pressure points and movements.

How long does a RM© session last?

Sessions last between 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the child’s individual requirements and specific family circumstances.

Is there a specific time of day I need to do the massage?

It is recommended that sessions are carried out whenever you and your child are feeling most relaxed. Most parents find that time to be during the bedtime routine and they therefore choose to perform massage just before bedtime. For families that do not find evenings convenient the massage can be carried out at any other time during the day.

How often do I need to carry out RM©?

Best results are achieved if the treatment is carried out daily. If that is not possible we recommend delivering a session at least three times a week.

I would like to sign up for your online training, but it looks too expensive

We believe our online training to be a very good value for money, especially when compared to the cost of massage that is carried out by professional therapists. The cost of sensory massage performed by a therapist is in the region of £40-£60 for each session. Please note that we also occasionally run promotional campaigns with discount codes – follow us on social media or subscribe to the mailing list to get informed about any promotional discounts we may run in the future.

How long before I see the results ?

We recommend carrying out regular massage for at least four months before you can expect to see significant changes, although some improvements have been reported after a shorter period of time. As every child has their own unique set of symptoms and challenges, it is difficult to make comparisons and give precise predictions.

Can I make a mistake and make my child symptoms worse than before?

Tui Na Centre – Rozman Method© is a holistic massage with no known or reported side effects. It is performed in a manner of play and gentle touch. The only type of mistake that a parent carrying out the massage could make is to miss/not press the correct point on the body. Making this mistake would not be harmful or make any symptoms worse for your child. If you are not certain at any stage whether you are performing the massage correctly refer back to our videos to ensure the correct pressure is applied in the right places.

Is there any evidence that this massage is effective in autism/Down syndrome/cerebral palsy

Tui Na Centre – Rozman Method© massage is not claimed to be a cure or a treatment for autism or any other condition. However, it has been suggested through research that regular therapeutic massage, including a massage based on Chinese Medicine principles, could have beneficial effects for at least a subgroup of children with autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

The improvements that were observed in some study participants included better sensory processing, improved sociability and communication, better self-regulation and impulse control, and reduction in difficult and challenging behaviours.

These results were not surprising, given that regular and targeted massage and touch-therapies in general have been shown through controlled scientific studies to stimulate and regulate the senses (touch, hearing, smell and vision) and blood flow; regulate sleep, improve digestion and mood; stimulate liver and kidney activity; stimulate production of serotonin and melatonin and lead to improved regulation of cortisol and stress levels.

In addition, practicing this massage daily can further strengthen the special bond that parents have with their child, and so reduce parental stress and improve their own wellbeing.

For lists of scientific references please visit individual pages for autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

Is attending local RM© training course same as learning the massage online? If I join now and learn online would I still benefit from attending a training course later on?

Our videos provide a clear step-by-step guide on how to carry out the massage. By following on-screen instructions you will be able to carry out the full massage programme. The knowledge and skills that you gain by following our online materials are the same as those gained by parents who attend our local courses.

Once you have completed the online training you may still wish to attend a local training course. This can provide an opportunity to discuss concerns or issues related specifically to your child and or improve your massage technique.

Please note that if you join to learn our programme online and then decide to attend our 1-day local training course your online-learning fee would be refunded in full. For example if you have paid £90 towards three months of online training that amount would be taken off the 1-day training fee. In other words you would not lose any money or pay twice for the same thing.

Tui Na Centre – Rozman Method© is a complementary therapy with no reported side effects and in conjunction with suitably qualified medical treatments can be used for conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

How often do you run local training courses for parents?

We run 1-day training courses for parents, subject to demand, whenever we have a large enough group of parents interested and willing to learn. Training courses are held approximately 4 times a year. Most of the training courses take place in London or abroad, with occasional courses in the North of the UK. However if you are interested in organising a training course for your organisation or a local parents group please get in touch with us to discuss the possibility of running a custom-made training.

Can I bring my child on the course?

Unfortunately we do not allow children to be present on the courses. Our training sessions are very comprehensive, lasting from 9am-5pm and require attendees to focus and apply themselves fully to learning the materials. Having children present would make it very challenging for parents to concentrate and learn the necessary skills.

If I attend your 1-day training course would I gain enough knowledge and confidence to carry out massage at home?

As already mentioned, the training is very comprehensive. Emphasis is placed on parents practising the actual steps of the massage, under our constant supervision. Participants are also given clear explanation about what to expect during the actual massage session with their child, possible difficulties that they might encounter, and how to overcome them. We are also available to answer any specific questions by parents that are relevant to their individual child.
If you attend our in-person 1-day training you will also receive our online susbscription as part of the training package – this will enable you to watch the training videos and re-visit the instructions given during the training.
